Club Hire

We host ‘Have a Go’ social events during  the summer playing season from September to April. Have a Go sessions are an ideal way for groups and businesses to relax, have fun and experience playing croquet in relaxing surrounds. We can host from 10 to 50 people who want to have a really great day out and a taste of croquet to celebrate a birthday, anniversary, Christmas or other events. Pre-Christmas bookings fill up fast so if you’re considering a December Have a Go contact us (details below) as early as possible.

What we provide:

All playing equipment including mallets and balls

The Clubhouse facilities

Glasses/plates/cutlery and equipment to cater for up to 40 people, in a casual indoor/outdoor dining environment.  If there are more than 40 people in your group, you'll need to bring additional glasses and plates.

A three-burner barbecue

Lawn set-up and tuition/guidance on how to play golf croquet for fun. Two or more club members  will be there to help for the entire time your group is at the Club. We find most groups get so engaged in the game they keep going till dark.

What you’re responsible for:

Having fun, but also respecting our surroundings, our neighbours and the Club’s property.

You’ll need to tidy up the Clubrooms after your function and remove any rubbish/empty bottles, etc from the premises.

If your function runs into the evening, premises must be vacated by 8.30pm.

Flat shoes or bare feet must be worn at all times while on the lawns.

 Transport and parking:

Free carparks are available on Alexandra road, with a further 8-10 car parks on the grass verges beside the Club. Taxis can come down the drive and turn, and buses styop nearby (see “Location”).

Availability:

Mid-week functions usually start around lunchtime. Weekend functions can start from 4pm after Club play ends, with your function finishing and premises vacated by 8.30pm.

Bookings are on a 'first come, first served' basis. Your desired days/times may not always be available if there are earlier bookings, or the lawns are being used by members for club or tournament competitions. Discuss your needs with Alan Kerr (details below) - we'll be as flexible as possible.

Payment:

The cost of hiring  lawns and club facilities to 'have a go' at croquet for your function is:

- for groups of fewer than 15 people – $400 (price is negotiable depending on final numbers)

- for groups of 15-25 people - $500

- for groups of more than 25 people - $750.

All payments to be direct-credited to the Club’s bank account at least 7 days before your group’s Have a Go booking, or can be made in advance by cheque to Wellington Municipal Croquet Club (INC). If the payment deadline is not met, it could result in the booking being voided and the time slot being given to another group.
