Have a Go

  • We host “Have a Go” social events from mid November to mid February during the summer playing season.

  • Have a Go sessions are an ideal way for groups and businesses to relax, have fun and experience playing croquet in relaxing surrounds. Events usually last about 4 hours.

  • We can host from 10 to 50 people who want to have a really great day out and a taste of croquet to celebrate a birthday, anniversary, Christmas or other events.

  • Pre-Christmas and summer holidays bookings fill up fast so if you’re considering a December Have a Go please contact us soon to discuss your preferred date(s).


What We Provide

  • All playing equipment including mallets and balls

  • Clubhouse Facilities

    • glasses/plates/cutlery and equipment to cater for up 40 people - if there are more than 40 people in your group, you’ll need to bring additional glasses and plates

    • casual indoor/outdoor dining environment

    • a three-burner barbecue

  • Lawn set-up and tuition/guidance on how to play golf croquet for fun

  • Two or more club members to help for the entire time your group is at the Club


What you’re Responsible for

  • Compliance with NZ Government Covid-19 Protection Framework

  • Having Fun, but also respecting our surroundings, our neighbours and the Club’s property

  • Providing your own food and drink

  • Tidying up the Club Rooms after your function

  • Removing any rubbish / empty bottles etc. from the premises - bring your own bags

  • Wearing flat shoes or bare feet at all times while on the lawns

  • Vacating the premises by 8:30 pm


Transport and Parking

  • Free carparks are available on Alexandra Road

  • There are 8 - 10 carparks on the grass verges beside the Club

  • Taxis can come down the drive and turn

  • Buses stop nearby on Constable Street


Availability

  • Mid-week functions usually start around 1:00 pm

  • Weekend functions can start from 4:00 pm after club play ends

  • Functions usually last about 4 hours

  • Functions must finish and premises be vacated by 8:30 pm

  • Bookings will only be accepted during the period Monday 18 November 2024 to Sunday 16 February 2025 (inclusive)

  • Bookings are on a “first come , first served basis”. Your desired days/times may not always be available if there are earlier bookings, or the lawns are being used by members for club or tournament competitions. Check our current booking schedule or discuss your needs with Susan Leuchars (details below) - we’ll be as flexible as possible.


Payment

Our Charges are:

  • fewer than 15 people - $480 (price may be negotiable depending on date and final numbers)

  • groups of 15 - 25 people - $600

  • groups of more than 25 people - $900

Payments must be direct credited to the club’s bank account at least 7 days before your function. If payment is not received by due date, the Club reserves the right to cancel the booking and give the time slot to another group.
